Laura is the first one to tell you that a voice over actor is only as good as she sounds, and as a top booking female professional voice talent, Laura prides herself on providing her clients with pristine audio recording in her custom, broadcast ready home studio.
In terms of design, Laura’s private contractor consulted with industry leaders “Uncle” Roy Yokelson of Antland Productions and George Whittam of “Georgeth.Tech” to create a sound perfect for Laura’s warm, bubbly vocal qualities. This booth is the best asset a working mom can have: Laura can conduct live sessions for her clients even if her children are home from school. Put simply: this booth is fantastic. Laura offers live or guided sessions via Source Connect, Zoom, Skype, or Google Meet Up.
So that you can see Laura’s set up, here are some photos of her booth so that you can get a sense of the space.
Inside the booth Laura has:
- Microphone: Neumann TLM 103
- Apollo MK II Thunderbolt
- iMac via Studio Monitor with Twisted Wave
- Beyer Dynamic Headphones
Outside the booth, Laura has an office set up with:
- iMac Desktop
- Sennheiser Headphones
Laura has also had sound engineering training continually throughout the years to hone her skills and provide the best possible service for her clients. As she makes studio upgrades, which she does regularly, she works with engineers like Tim Tippets and George Whittam to make sure both her audio is in check and her skills are in sync.
Laura’s travel rig was specifically designed to match her in-studio sound. In fact, her Apollo pre-amp goes with her wherever she goes. So, if Laura has travel coming up, she typically works with clients to plan ahead so that a project is completed before she is on the road. If this is not possible, she will often set up her travel rig in house so that the audio is recorded on the same set up. Laura’s travel rig includes:
- Sennheiser MKE 416 Microphone
- Apollo MK II Thunderbolt preamp/Apollo Solo
- Macbook Air with Twisted Wave
- VoMo Booth To Go
Laura also went through the lengthy process of having her studio professionally approved by WoVo. So, a panel of sound engineers quality checked samples of Laura’s raw audio and certified her studio quality. Her seal of professional approval can be found below. This multi-step certification process should give clients and industry partners alike confidence in the quality of all WoVo approved professional voice over actors like Laura.
- In the booth with Violet and Daisy.
- Daisy asleep in the booth. This is great as long as she does not snore.
- Violet testing out my Beyer Dynamic Cans. She approves.
- On the couch with the girls. Yes, I do let them on the sofa.
- Snuggling in the dining room with Vi.
You might be surprised to know that Laura seldom works alone. Instead, Laura prefers the company of her super sweet “Studio Dogs” Violet and Daisy. Violet is older and holds rank. She is a Blenheim Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and this tiny power house diva runs the show. She might be small, weighing in at just 15 pounds, but Violet is a lady boss in her own right. She is also happy to snuggle with anyone who visits the studio. Daisy is a Silver Labrador Retriever and despite her large stature would also curl up in your lap if given the chance. Daisy will do anything for a ball or a cookie. They are the best companions a girl could ask for and it is safe to assume that if Laura is self directing or auditioning, “the girls” are in the studio. The girls are not, however, present during live sessions for Source Connect or Zoom.
